At the suggestion of Missy Mallory I have started to try and make my own wordpress theme. Now, I have absolutely no clue how to make one whatsoever, so until I figure it out, here’s a kind of ugly one made on a theme generator. xD At least it’s not a default, right?

So, my exams have started. Shockhorrorgasp. Last Thursday and Friday ((it lasts eight hours)) I sat my art exam, and this is what I came up with:

It is supposed to answer the question ‘What happens next?’ by looking at evolution, although I don’t know if it accurately portrays that.

I’ve been to see yet another show that my very talented friend was in, by the way. =D She played Ariel in Footloose this time, and I really enjoyed it. We got front row seats, so that was nice too. It was a really funny show, and all the cast were really good.

This seems like such a lazy blog post, but in my defence I only made it to explain the layout. I don’t suppose I even needed to do that, considering I don’t really try to advertise this place yet; I figure I should wait until I’ve added some content first. Still, there’s no rush. The reason, I think, that I abandoned all my other sites is due to the fact I made myself think I had to update every other day for it to be worth anything. I’m trying to be more selfish with it this time round. Haha.

So yeah, I’m going to go and watch Back to the Future III and finish my art evaluation. Toodle hoo, everyone. xx.

Hello to my mostly, as of yet, nonexistent readers. =P I thought it would be a good idea to not have a repeat of last month, and make sure I post at least one blog in early March. Or, before mid March, anyway. Which gives me about a week.

I will start by writing about last Tuesday, which is when some friends and I went to see another friend playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast for a local theatre production. I always love seeing my friends in the theatre; it always shocks me as to how talented they really are. I mean, I know they’re talented, any fool can see that, but when I see them on stage I realise how much they actually hold back when they’re singing in school. I was especially impressed when my friend sang “A Change in Me” ((This Song, in case you didn’t know.)) We were all super proud of her. =D

However, of course, we did go and see it on opening night, and so there were a few ‘flaws’ – that is to say, my friends and I didn’t really see them as flaws, because they were hilarious while still not affecting the great standard of acting, or ruining the story, I don’t think the people involved in the production would feel the same way, though. When the Beast made his big entrance, the first thing one of my friends said was “Look! The Beast is Brian May!” and then five minutes later my other friend whispers “He looks like Brian May!”, having not heard my first friend. This, of course, meant that we couldn’t take the Beast’s costume seriously throughout the rest of the production. It was the wig, to be quite fair, although we later decided that the eyebrows and face paint also added a bit of the Grinch in there. Either way, he didn’t look 100% Beast like, more like a normal bloke with a bit of a facial hair problem, and maybe a skin condition on his hands. ((My friend who played Belle has told us that he used a mask for the rest of the nights, so we know this changed.))

This revelation caused myself and one of my friends to laugh whenever the Beast did a certain expression, or pulled a certain pose. I couldn’t stop laughing during his big serious ballad, but I don’t think I was so loud as to annoy the people around me. The Beast’s cape also fell around the front a few times, so it looked a bit like a novelty tie, and at one point his wig slipped off and my friend had to put it back on. Not to mention one of the dancing spoons nearly took out another cast member when the spoon became dislodged from his costume.

But no, this blog implies that it was a shambles, but it really was good. And it’s a difficult musical to pull off when you don’t have a broadway budget. I think they did really well. The Beast’s transformation was especially good, because you really couldn’t tell that he was… de-Beasting himself? As he was lying down. Obviously the pulling off of the wig was noticeable, but the actor sort of slipped it forward, so it looked more like the hair was growing back into his scalp than the removal of the wig. I don’t think kids would have noticed it, which is who the show was aimed at, I assume. Their Lumiere was absolutely hilarious, and there was the one scene where Belle and Lumiere are following Cogsworth around the castle, who is giving a detailed tour. Lumiere and Belle are rather bored, and begin to fidget and such behind Cogsworth’s back. I loved them all in this scene, it was so funny!

I did write two paragraphs about my art coursework deadline on Friday, but I fear that one of my teachers might find this website in the future, and I don’t think I want them to read. Long story short, I really love art, but getting so much negative criticism on things that I put so much effort into can be difficult. Especially when it’s not all that constructive.

On Friday night my group of friends all went and watched films in Elly’s basement. My mother made more cakes for the occasion, because it is her talent, lol – we got butterfly cakes with buttercream and grated flake. =D We watched Chicago and Up!, both of which were very entertaining. There was a girl with us who had never seen Chicago before, and as the rest of us had it was funny to see her reactions. She jumped so much at the shooting/hanging scenes. xD

The tables were turned when we watched Up!, because I had never seen that one before, and I was convinced the montage at the beginning was a fantasy sequence. I got awfully confused at to why a small child would fantasise all those traumatising events. Of course, it turned out that they were actually reality, which is probably worse. I enjoyed the film – lots of people quote it, and I don’t think I remember it enough to do that, but it was entertaining, so.. yeah.

Oh, and I got to eat the last rolo. Hehe. ^.^

The rest of my weekend was spent watching the Simpsons in my bed. A lot of my friends went out to a party on Saturday night but I’m such a rebel I didn’t go… And now it’s Monday. Nothing all that interesting has happened today, so I guess I’ll end my blog there. Wait! A new KFC opened in my town today. That’s what happened today.

I feel like a bit rant, or opinion would be fun. But as of yet I don’t have anything to rant of give opinions about. =o

I watched Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I love Mel’s films. My friend got me this one last September for my birthday but this is the first time I’ve got a proper chance to watch it. It was immense, but my favourites are still Young Frankenstein and the Producers.

I wanted a smoothie but the shop was closed. =(
In a good mood though. =D Hopefully it will last.

Sorry for really rushed entry – I shall update you properly tomorrow but I needed by Saturday entry up!

Peace out,

Okay, so today was our first day back after school. It wasn’t as hideous as expected, but I figure tomorrow’s going to be worse. We’ve got design and technology. :/ We were supposed to hand in homework last December, and only one of us has finished it so far… I’m not one of them. I really hate it. I hate it because we don’t get any support as students and because I don’t have a clue what I’m doing. I also hate it because this is the first time that I’ve been this far behind in a lesson, and I really, really hate doing badly. I guess you could say I’m a big swot in that sense, but oh well.

Oh! I said that it wasn’t hideous, but there is one thing that was kind of bad. My head of year basically put my name down for a competition that I really don’t want to do. It’s a quiz thing, and there are four on the team. The other three volunteered, and because I’m their friend she just assumed I’d do it too. I told her that it would stress me out, and that I was worried, and that I wasn’t happy, and that I hate the pressure… And she just waved it off like I was joking. I think I’m going to have to ask her more seriously tomorrow because if I do do it, I’m going to make the team lose. I’m not fast enough to hit the buzzer first. I don’t want to hinder them. She can get someone else. Get someone who’ll be good and enjoy it. It’s not fair. I hate our school.

My afternoon was pretty good though. I had art first, and then english. In art I’ve been looking at fantasy creatures, and Sir said that I had the style of an illustrator. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I would love to be an illustrator. He brought it up after we had been talking about Quentin Blake, so I was quite flattered. I’m going to do a page about Elphaba now, I think. I dressed up as her last year, and our sketchbook theme is personal environment, so we’re supposed to include as many self portraits as we possibly can.

For English we looked at another Seamus Heaney poem – “Requiem for the Croppies”. I like it, it’s one of my favourites of his, I think. My friends and I also talked about some London trips – I’m apparently spending all my money on theatre trips this year. I think the prices are extortionate, but I’m tired of being the only one not to have seen a show in the West End, and I really want to see some of these shows at least once. I think this year I’ll be seeing Avenue Q, Legally Blonde, Oliver and Wicked, in that order. We’re doing two day trips to save money on travelling. Fun times. I’m really excited for all of them except Oliver, really. xD Very, very excited to see the cast of Legally Blonde – Sheridan Smith, Peter Davison, Jill Halfpenny and Caroline Keiff, anyone? How awesome. I think we’re gonna stage door.

Anyway, after that I came home and finished my essay on Frankenstein. I quite enjoyed writing it, if I’m honest. Proud geek here!

Finally, in the night I went to college for Psychology, and we had the results from our mock exam back. I got an A! I’m so happy. <3 I was convinced I had gotten a D because I messed up the 10 mark question on definitions of abnormality. :/ We went on to looking at social influence as well. The Zimbardo Prison Experiment, to be precise. It’s barbaric, to be honest. :/ I mean, what he learned is really interesting, but when you look at how he went about it… it’s really shocking. We had to watch a documentary about it, and some of the students in my class were severely upset by it. The ‘John Wayne’ guy was super sadistic; it was so weird to see him talking about it however many years later. It was like he was two separate people – how could someone just twist like that?

Anyway, it’s past ten at night, and I’ve got to be up at half six tomorrow for D&T. Woop woop. :/

Goodnight, everyone!

-Jess. xx.

I’m exhausted.

Got another day off of school, and tomorrow, and had a pretty fun day. Basically all I did was take the dog for a walk twice – once with my mother and once with my father – but I took lots and lots of pictures.

Click the thumbnail to go to my Flickr and see the rest. =)

I’ve got tomorrow off school – I feel so greedy! But at least I can use these images for my Art coursework. Sort of productive, no?

Titch ((my dog)) is so funny in the snow. He likes to eat it, but only if you throw it as a snowball first, if he catches it then he’ll munch it all, but if it lands on the ground and splatters he just gets really confused as to where it’s gone. He has no idea how they appear either, and when you lean down to gather the snow he runs over and looks around as if he expects to see one fully formed on the ground. =) He loves it, bless him. Especially when the snow is deep, he’s only a little dog, so he ends up bounding around in it and getting soaking wet… But it’s an adventure for him, isn’t it? xD

Our snowman from yesterday has already been kicked over by some yobs. =( He’s actually got a footprint on him, bless. It’s a left footprint though, so we have some clues as to who the snowmanicidal maniac was. That snowman still doesn’t have a name. I’m thinking about calling him Chip, though. Why not?

It’s forecast rain on Saturday. =( So all the snow will be gone. Sad times.

I’m going to a birthday gathering tomorrow though – chinese food, although I’ll probably be sticking to chips, rice and chicken balls. I’m really picky with my food, and not brave enough to try new things.

I recently revisited this blog, and realised how depressing all of last year’s entries were! I only really wote four or five, but not one of them was positive. I decided to delete the posts, because they were painful to read back – and if I can’t read my own blogs, why would anyone else want to? I’m going to try and be slightly more positive in this blog – not all the time, granted. But no more angsty vents. That’s my rule. Moaning about schoolwork and such is fine, but anything rambling on about how rubbish my life is is a no-no. Mostly because lots of people have it worse off than me. I guess I’ll still write the blogs, seeing as everyone should be allowed to vent, but I’ll private the entries, or something. =D

Doctor Who Spoilers

So, today is the second of January, 2010. I really hate the New Year – that’s another thing that depresses me, but this one is already turning out to be quite monumental. Yesterday was the episode of Doctor Who, where David Tennant’s Doctor regenerated into Matt Smith’s. I’ve not really shut up about it since, so I feel like I’m repeating myself, but it was just. So. Awesome. There was one flaw that I am tempted to point out, in my opinion, but I don’t really know if I’d have been happy with it changed, either. This was the section where Ten went around saying goodbye to all of his friends and companions. I found this collection of scenes to be so lovely and personal, and it seemed a good ending, but I thought that it took away from the ‘oomph’ that should have been placed on the regeneration. I thought that by the end of all the farewells I was just asking myself “how long is this going to take?“, which really isn’t an appropriate reaction because I – like many, many other people – loved David Tennant as the Doctor. I didn’t want to feel impatient about him leaving!

I don’t really understand why the Doctor went to see Verity Newman though. The Doctor didn’t even love Joan – John Smith did. And, fair enough, Joan had loved him so visiting her granddaughter was a nice gesture, but Verity didn’t know what he looked like. He could have visited her as Matt Smith and said “I’m the Doctor” and the reaction would have been the same. Of course, his personality might have changed and stuff, and if Joan was alive she probably wouldn’t feel the same, but Verity doesn’t know any of this. The Doctor could have used his time to visit other people, I don’t know who… but still.

I’m so rambling, now. :/ I’ll try and condense all the other good things into a list.

Ten’s last words. Many people I’ve seen think the weren’t that good, but I thought they were brilliant. Partly because David Tennant does crying/emotional/upset scenes to superbly, but mostly because it showed us that the Doctor thinks like a human. It makes him a more relatable character, in my opinion. Of course, this could also be seen as a bad thing because… he’s supposed to be super awesome, we’re not supposed to relate to him. But, in what at the end of the day started as a children’s show, it puts across the message that even heroes get scared, and I love that.

The rant and Wilf. In a way, I hated this, because saying Wilf was unimportant and deserved to be the one to die and all this was horrible. But, once again, relatability.

John Simm. This man is a complete legend. His acting is absolutely awesome. I adore him as the Master… although I don’t know what happened to the Master. Did he get stuck in the Time Lock? I figure we’re not supposed to know. Leaving it open for a return, anyway.

The Time Lady. My vote is on it being Susan. Lots of people have said Romana. Some people have said it might be Donna because the Doctor looked at her when Wilf asked who it was, but, in my head, he could have looked at her because Donna is Wilf’s granddaughter, as Susan is to the Doctor. Of course, Donna was also wearing a wedding dress at the time, so as far as we know it’s the Doctor’s wife, or something. I kind of doubt it, though, because wouldn’t she have been on earth with him in Classic Who? I don’t know, I can’t judge, I’ve only seen a few episodes of the classics. Hardly enough to make an opinion.

Russell Tovey. Oh. My. Gosh. When I saw that bar with Jack I literally laughed out loud. It suits him so well. xD Russell is awesome, and even though I’m a Janto girl at heart, I could think of worse things than Jack/Alonso. xD <3

The scene with the Doctor tied to the chair thing. lol.

I wouldn’t really count this as a good thing, to be honest, but the whole Mickey and Martha being married probably deserves a mention. I’m not sure if I like the pairing, I always imagined the both of them would just end up with randomers not a part of the whoniverse. I don’t know. Maybe it’ll grow on me. Hmm.

As for Matt Smith. ((I met him last Summer – just randomly, and didn’t have a camera or a pen or anything. Gutting much? But awesome all the same.)) I’m looking forward to seeing him in series 5. My hopes are high. He seems a very good choice for the role. I’ve seen the trailer for the next series and it looks very good, I’m especially looking forward to the weeping angels returning. I really don’t like this ‘gironimo’ deal though. xD

I think that’s it. If I’ve forgotten anything, feel free to let me know.

End of Doctor Who Spoilers

One awesomely significant thing, is that while myself and my family were watching the episode – it started to snow. It snowed on the first day of a new decade. How awesome is that? I wish I had gotten some video footage or something of the snow falling, but there was no way I was going to move away from the telly, and the snow had stopped by the time DW had finished. It stuck though, only lightly, but it’s not melted. My mother is convinced there’s more to come, but I’m not so sure. I hope it snows the day before we’re scheduled to go back to school. I suck at homework.

Anyway, yeah, would any of you be interested in my New Year’s resolutions? I’m not going to tell you all of them, but here are the ones to do with the internet, I’m probably not going to keep any of them though!

I want to try and make more youtube videos. Animations, because I want to improve and it’s fun.

Same with DeviantArt submissions, I really want to try and improve my artwork, so I plan to try out different medias – move away from collages, pencils and watercolours – and… yeah. I want a B in A Level art at least, so practising is always good.

Blog regularly. Once a week at least, if possible.

Also, just remembered to say. A weird thing just happened, basically, I fell asleep, and woke up with a nosebleed and a fat lip. Any explanation ideas? My best guess is I bit my lip and the nosebleed was just a coincidence, but it’s a weird one, to be fair.

I’m going to shut up now, happy new year! Goodbye. xx.
